Numbers are his life. That’s why Jan van Koningsveld of Emden in north-west Germany works as a accountant. But that’s not enough. He’s also world champion, world record-holder, and now also Olympic victor in mental calculation. On November 1 and 2, 2008, the first MEMORIAD, the Olympics of mental calculation and memory sport, was held in Istanbul and Jan van Koningsveld won two gold medals: one in multiplication and one in calendar calculation. We visited the super-brain in back home in Emden.
