Elvis Costello and Sting joined forces in Paris Pop - Opera Production
In Paris the Theatre du Chatelet's an up and coming director is pursuing his plan to open the lyrical arts to outside influences.
A contemporary opera by Steve Nieve will do just that. It will tell the story of Dionysius, the son of a Greek labourer, who falls in love with an opera singer. Sting will play the main character and other pop artist Elvis Costello will be his "Savonarol“. The question is whether or not this effort will in fact have the crossover appeal it’s meant to have and whether Sting and Costello are able to sing opera.
