DW-AKADEMIE in the Middle East and North Africa
Internet and satellite television have dramatically changed the region's media landscape. Some countries have begun -- albeit very carefully -- to reform their state broadcasters and to even allow private broadcasters.
While teaching new skills to journalists, technicians and managers in electronic media, DW-AKADEMIE is trying to use this opportunity to bring about long-term change to broadcasters in the region and encourage more press freedom.
DW-AKADEMIE is concentrating its efforts on the countries of Jordan, Syria and Yemen. It also works in the Palestinian territories, Egypt and northern and southern Sudan. Participants from Iraq attend courses in neighboring countries.
DW-AKADEMIE's partners in the Middle East include:
- Arabic States Broadcasting Union (ASBU), Syria
- Bir Zeit University (BZU), Palestinian Territories
- Syria Radio and Television (SRTV), Syria
- Yemen Radio and Television (YRTV), Yemen
- Campus Radio GUC University, Egypt
- Sudan Radio and Television (SRTC), Sudan
- Southern Sudan Radio and TV (SSRTC), Sudan
